With Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton being placed on injured reserve, effectively ending his 2019 season, there’s a good chance he has played his last game for the Panthers.
During his absence, rookie quarterback Kyle Allen has led Carolina to a 5-1 record, and one of those wins was over the Tennessee Titans in Week 9. As a result of Allen’s impressive play this season, it’s quite possible the Panthers move on from Newton after 2019.
If that happens, there are three possibilities for Newton’s future.
- The Panthers could release Newton and save more than $19 million, although this would be more of a sentimental move because it doesn’t make much sense to let him walk if the team can get draft capital in exchange.
