On Monday, Jake Locker was announced as the Titans' starting quarterback. Head Coach Mike Munchak released the information to the press after training camp, and it was a big decision for both his squad and the organization.
I think it's too early.
Matt Hasselbeck had an outstanding 2011 campaign, throwing for 3,571 yards with 18 TD's and 14 interceptions. He even outperformed his stats, posing as a leader in the locker room and as a presence in the pocket with valuable NFL experience.
I do not doubt for a second that Locker earned this privilege. I do not think Munchak gave him the job just because he is, undoubtedly, the future franchise quarterback. Locker has proven a quality player at Washington, and will prove to be a great pro. I just think he should have waited a bit longer.
Who knows. He could be a revelation.....or he could be bad. That is generally the way it goes for young players.
It should be fun to watch.
