PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team was honored with a national academic accolade on Monday, being named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award winner.
The award, which was initiated during the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.50 cumulative team grade point average.
A record number of teams earned the award this year, with 764 institutions ranging from high school to NCAA Division I. The previous high, 757, was set in the 2014-15 academic year. Among the award winners, Temple was one of just 20 Division I teams to earn the team academic award AND meet their Dig Pink Fundraising goal.
