Tonya Cardoza Named American WBB Coach of the Year

UNCASVILLE, Conn. -- Temple women's basketball head coach Tonya Cardoza was named the 2017 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, earning the honor alongside UConn's Geno Auriemma. The announcement was made at The American's awards press conference held Friday at Mohegan Sun Arena.

"It's an honor to win this award." Cardoza said. "This is one of the most competitive seasons in our conference and any coach could be standing up here receiving this award, so I'm grateful."

The all-time winningest coach in the history of Temple women's basketball, Cardoza earns her first American Coach of the Year honor after winning the award in both the Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5.
