PHILADELPHIA -- Josh Brown made five free throws down the stretch as Temple weathered a late rally to beat Saint Joseph's 81-78 on Saturday afternoon.
Temple (6-2) sprinted to a 40-29 halftime advantage and led 63-51 midway of the second period and still had a comfortable 74-58 lead with 5:01 remaining. Shavar Newkirk and Taylor Funk drilled back to back 3-pointers to start 14-2 run as the Hawks pulled to 76-72 with 1:32 remaining. Brown then sealed the win with five free throws.
Shizz Alston Jr. had 20 points, hitting 5 of 8 treys, for Temple.
