New sports complex nears completion

Just south of Temple’s Main Campus, the facility will serve as athletics and recreation space

PHILADELPHIA - The new sports complex just south of Temple's Main Campus is nearing completion, with the university's men's and women's soccer teams scheduled as the first to take the field in mid-August at a facility that will also serve intramural and club sports.

The $22 million project, started in September 2015, features two playing fields. The space for field hockey and lacrosse, at the southern end of the property by 13th Street and Girard Avenue, will be named Howarth Field in recognition of a $500,000 gift from former field hockey student-athlete Cherifa Howarth, CPH '98, and her husband, Greg.
