PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple men's crew team had two events nearly 850 miles apart, but found similar success in both, as the Owls opened the spring racing season in winning fashion. Temple nabbed victories at the Jacksonville Sprints and then on their home course over Lehigh on the Schuylkill River.
Down in Florida, the Owls grabbed wins in varsity eight and second varsity eight racing. In the "Vera Hutton," Temple clocked in a 5:27.58 to top Jacksonville's varsity eight (5:33.36). In second varsity racing, Temple's "'Jed' Dietrich" boat topped Jacksonville, 5:44.37 to 5:49.70.
On the banks of the Schuylkill, Temple notched victories in both races against Lehigh, as the Owls rowed out of their newly renovated boathouse for the first time.
