Field Hockey Drops Season Opener to No. 2 Syracuse in Conference Cup Tournament

PHILADELPHIA (Saint Joseph's) - The defending national champions gave Temple field hockey a strong challenge in the opening game of the 2016 season, and the Owls fell 8-0 to the No. 2 Syracuse Orange in the first game of the Conference Cup Tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's.

Temple gave up four goals in each half, but got a solid debut performance from freshman Maddie Lilliock who made nine saves overall.

"It's refreshing to see a group of women compete to the end," said Temple head coach Marybeth Freeman on her team's effort.
