Something I didn’t know - Southern is coming off of a postseason ban for academics.
Many of Southern’s athletics programs, football included, are exiting a period of postseason ineligibility thanks to stunningly low APR (academic progress rate) scores.
The NCAA requires a score of 930 to be maintained over a four-year period in order to avoid warnings and eventual discipline. Penalties for low APR can include less practice time, scholarship reduction and postseason bans.
In 2016, the national average for APR was 959. Southern’s football program scored a 717 that year.
