In Small’s estimation, owning the process simply means continuing the blue-collar approach that has allowed the defensive-minded Patterson to post a 160-57 record in his first 17 seasons at the school.
“It’s consistency, hard work and determination,” Small said. “Owning the process means that you take everything you do regarding those three things to the utmost you can. There are no shortcuts to success. There are no shortcuts to greatness.”
