TCU finds itself in a dogfight with Iowa State at the break. It’s tied 7-7 at the half.

Here are the takeaways from the first half --

1. Penalties. These officials haven’t been been shy to make their presence felt. The referees have sent multiple players out of the game for “knee pad” violations. But the biggest call so far has been overturning a targeting call that knocked TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin out in the second quarter.

Turpin had a 24-yard reception but endured a blow to the helmet from Cyclones defensive back Datrone Young.
