The first half was highlighted by questionable calls by the officiating crew, including a targeting call that was picked up after review. It certainly looked like targeting, as Turpin was absolutely leveled with a helmet-to-helmet hit, but referee Reggie Smith said it wasn’t. He did, however, have a keen eye for multiple knee pad infractions that caused Sewo Olonilua and KaVontae Turpin to have to come off the field.
