Former TCU football player KaVontae Turpin was indicted on misdemeanor assault with bodily injury charges last month, a spokesperson for the Tarrant County district attorney’s office said.

Turpin had a “setting” hearing on Friday, but no court date has been set. The Tarrant County district attorney’s office investigated the incident for close to five months, and the grand jury decided to go forward with misdemeanor charges on March 22.

Grand jury review is not mandatory on misdemeanor charges. Turpin faces a Class A misdemeanor charge and, if convicted, the maximum punishment is up to one year in prison and a $4,000 fine.
