TCU fired head coach Trent Johnson last week after three seasons in Fort Worth. The top replacement on Horned Frog fans' wishlist was immediately Pittsburgh coach Jamie Dixon, a TCU alum. It would be a strong hire but seemed far-fetched considering Dixon's long-term contract at Pitt.
But a report from CBS Sports' Gary Parrish makes the possibility seem much more likely.
Parrish reported on Sunday that TCU has "zeroed in on Jame Dixon to fill its coaching vacancy" and that Dixon is "considering what amounts to an offer."
What makes the situation complicated still though is that long-term deal at Pitt but TCU is trying to work out the details with Dixon, who played at TCU from 1984-87.
