Amy Okonkwo scored 22 points as the No. 24 TCU women’s basketball team held on late to beat Kansas State 68-63 Wednesday night in Manhattan, Kan., for its fifth consecutive victory.
The Horned Frogs (14-5, 5-3 Big 12), playing as a ranked team for the first time since 2010, outscored the Wildcats (11-9, 3-6) 24-13 in the third quarter to grab a 58-47 lead after the teams were tied 34-34 at halftime.
But TCU then went cold, going scoreless for nearly five minutes early in the fourth quarter as Kansas State climbed back in the game. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 65-53 with under a minute remaining, but Kianna Ray made one of two free throws and then stole an inbounds pass and set up a layup by Okonkwo to seal the victory.
