Frog pride is flowing strong tonight after former TCU Horned Frog and current Chicago Cub Jake Arrieta completed his first career no-hitter on Sunday night. The effort included a career-high 12 strikeouts, and some nifty glove work by second baseman Starlin Castro.
That catch came in the second inning, and was the biggest threat to break up the no no all night.
The win improved his August record to 6-0 in six appearances, with an ERA of 0.54 and 31 strikeouts. More significantly, it was Arrieta's league-leading 17th win of the season.
As for the Cubs, it was their first no-hitter since Carlos Zambrano no-hit the Astros in 2008, and the 14th in their history.
