TCU assistant baseball coach Kirk Saarloos didn't have a Twitter account when he started coaching at Cal State Fullerton eight years ago. He didn't need it. Emails -- and the occasional letter, accompanied by a DVD -- from players and coaches hoping to get noticed would fill his inbox.
That still happens today, but it's hardly the only way to open a scout's eyes.
For a high school athlete, social media can be an essential marketing outreach program. In football it's Hudl links. In basketball it's mixtapes. In baseball it's clips, and they only take a few seconds.
