Ben Banogu named Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

Big 12 Media Days are still a few days away, but the preseason awards are already being announced. On Wednesday, it was revealed that TCU defensive end Ben Banogu had been named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year. The Frogs placed one player, return specialist Kavontae Turpin, on the All-Big 12 team, as well.

Banogu finished last season as the conference’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year after finishing second in the Big 12 with 8 12 sacks - just three behind teammate Mat Boesen. He placed third in the conference with 16 12 tackles for loss, stuffing at least one play behind the line of scrimmage in 13 of the 14 games he played.
