When Ben Banogu broke his arm during his freshman football season at Prosper High, his mother, Ugochi, didn’t openly fret.
Ugochi had brought her family to Texas from her native Nigeria when Ben was 6 months old. For reasons she didn’t understand her five kids, all boys, gravitated to football.
Invariably there were injuries. Ugochi, though, held her peace until Ben, during a preseason practice entering his junior year at Prosper, got chop-blocked and broke his femur. Any notion that football was a wise life path for Ben, much less that it would lead him to stardom at TCU, was implausible.
