Yankees rout Rays in front of their smallest crowd ever

Rays

ST. PETERSBURG — The top two teams in the AL East arrived at Tropicana Field on Monday for the start of a four-game series and were met by the smallest crowd ever to see the Yankees and Rays play at the Trop.

The crowd was announced at 10,619, well under the previous low of 13,217 on May 2, 2005.

The Yankees rolled to an 11-5 victory that ended when Tim Beckham’s fly ball to left field struck the B ring catwalk and was caught by Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius.

Alex Colome turned in the worst outing of his big-league career.
