NEW YORK — The New York Yankees flexed their muscles Friday night at Yankee Stadium, hitting three home runs and causing another crack in the playoff hopes of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Rays dropped to two games under .500 with a 5-2 loss.
It was their second straight loss after beginning this road trip with two wins against the Orioles in Baltimore.
One of the subplots to the game was the matchup between Odorizzi and Yankees catcher Kevin McCann.
McCann entered the game with a career .625 batting average against Ororizzi. He had 10 hits in 16 at-bats, and three of those hits were home runs.
