With Anthony Bemboom out, Rays go shopping for another catcher, acquire veteran Erik Kratz

NEW YORK – With a third catcher injured, the Rays went out to find another veteran replacement Thursday, acquiring Erik Kratz from the Giants for a player to be named.

Kratz takes the place of rookie Anthony Bemboom, who was placed on the 10-day injured list after spraining his left knee Wednesday in his second big-league start. The Rays also get cash in the deal, which will be used to offset Kratz’s $1.5 million salary.

Kratz will now join Travis d’Arnaud, who was acquired last Friday, as replacements for the Rays injured top two catchers, Mike Zunino and Michael Perez.
