In our recent Rays Roundtable, there were many stats mentioned: some old, some new, some good, some bad, some great at predicting the future, others not so much.
One of the stats I chose as one of my personal favorites was xwOBA. As noted before, this is a stat that uses the launch angle and exit velocity that MLB traces on each ball in play, and combines those two numbers to give us a new number that approximates what a hitter should be producing with the luck (as well as a few other factors—hold that thought) stripped out of the equation.
