Those who know the sport of baseball well know that the distance from the pitcher’s mound to home plate is 60 feet (plus six inches). So, when I tell you Jacob Faria threw a 45-foot pitch in this afternoon’s game against the Kansas City Royals, you’re allowed to say, “That’s bad, right?”
It was.
Faria appeared to get a little tripped up on his cleat coming off the rubber, and the resulting pitch was something you might expect to see from an 8 year old throwing a cerenmonial first pitch.
Needless to say it wasn’t called a strike.
