PORT CHARLOTTE — Rays RF Steven Souza Jr. said he felt a rib “pop out of place” Sunday morning while taking batting practice in the indoor cage at Charlotte Sports Park and called it a day.

Souza was diagnosed with a left intercostal strain.

“It’s nothing crazy,” Souza said, adding he shut down his workout as a precaution.

Souza said he expects to be ready Friday when the Rays hold their first full-squad workout of the spring.

“We do not think it’s anything major, but right now there’s no delay because we have a week until guys get going,” manager Kevin Cash said.
