Dwight Gooden, a Tampa native and former star major league starting pitcher, was arrested in Newark for driving while intoxicated on Monday night, according to police.
Newark police found Gooden driving his black Chrysler the wrong direction on a one-way street at approximately 11:10 p.m. Monday. Gooden, 54, was arrested, and EMS responded to transport the former Mets star to University Hospital for further evaluation.
Gooden faces charges of driving while intoxicated, police said.
The arrest comes less than two months after Holmdel (N.J.) police arrested Gooden for driving under the influence and cocaine possession. The previous arrest came on June 7.
