Charlie Montoyo was officially named as the manager of the Toronto Blue Jays during a press conference held on Monday afternoon.
Montoyo finally got his first major league managerial gig, just over 20 years after managing his first affiliated team when he was hired in 1997 to manage the Princeton Devil Rays. Over the past two decades, Montoyo would steadily rise up the ladder, managing Short-Season, Low-A, High-A, and Double-A. In 2007, he took the helm of the Triple-A Durham Bulls, with whom he enjoyed immense success, becoming the team’s all-time winningest manager.
For the 2015 season, Montoyo was promoted to the major league staff to take over as the third base coach.
