The Tampa Bay Rays selected third baseman Josh Lowe of Pope HS (Marietta, Georgia) with the No. 13 pick in Thursday night's MLB first-year player draft.
Scouting report: Lowe has perhaps the most explosive tool projection in the entire draft. A very projectable 6-foot-4, Lowe has plus-plus raw power projection. All the components of huge game power are here; plus bat speed, raw strength in the hands, natural loft in the bat path and leverage in the lower half. When Lowe connects, balls explode into orbit with little visible effort. Lowe's game power comes on pitches down in the zone, and when pitches are up, Lowe's swing levels out into a more contact-friendly path.
