The Tampa Bay Rays signed Avisail Garcia to a one year deal worth 3.5M which could rise to roughly 6M due to incentives. The Rays interest in the 2017 All-Star broke earlier this week and while I expected the Erik Neander to make a run at a south side slugger (Jose Abreu) this offseason, I didn’t expect it to be Avi.
The signing was finalized just a few short days ago. Marc Topkin had the details regarding the incentives in the deal.
- 350 plate appearances: $250,000
- Every 50 plate appearances after that: $250,000
- 650 plate appearances: $1,000,000
Garcia will bring added power to the right side of the plate, which the Rays have been searching for especially after missing out on Nelson Cruz.
