Sudden surge in Fred McGriff’s Hall of Fame voting is probably too little, too late

More importantly for Rays fans, former outfielder Randy Winn was robbed by not receiving a single vote in his first year of eligibility.

Wait. That’s not it. Well, that note on Winn is true, but the important note for Rays fans was the sudden up-tick in votes for Fred McGriff. After being named on just 12.9% of the ballots last year, 20.9% of the voters named McGriff this year.

Unfortunately for McGriff, he needed a surge earlier in the process. With just ten years of eligibility now, even if McGriff can see similar jumps in his remaining three years of eligibility, he is still going to come up short, ending up somewhere in the neighborhood of 45-50%.
