ST. PETERSBURG – With the Tampa Bay Rays’ baseball season ended, and Pinellas County entertaining an option to bring in the Atlanta Braves for spring training, the city council is considering some choices of its own regarding the Rays’ future at Tropicana Field.
Council Chairman Charlie Gerdes is proposing a revision of an earlier deal he suggested in an attempt to break the council’s deadlock with the team about its desire to look for a new stadium location.
The council is scheduled on Oct. 22 to consider Gerdes’ plan, which would allow the Rays to look outside the city in exchange for annual fees if and when the team chooses to leave.
