CLEVELAND -- The Rays placed Steve Pearce on the disabled list on Tuesday with a strained right hamstring, but they did get some good news on outfielder Mikie Mahtook, whose fractured left hand did not require surgery.
The Rays have recalled infielder Nick Franklin and right-hander Ryan Garton from Triple-A Durham to take Pearce's and Mahtook's spots on the 25-man roster.
Pearce flew out in the ninth inning of Monday night's 7-4 Rays loss to the Indians and came up lame, grabbing his right hamstring. He told reporters after the game that the club planned to take a wait-and-see approach with his injury.
