The Cincinnati Reds signed outfielder Desmond Jennings to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training, the team announced Thursday.
Jennings, 30, would earn $1.5 million if he makes the team, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. MLB.com reported that another $1 million in incentives is available to him depending on how many games he plays.
Once a heralded prospect in the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Jennings has failed to live up to those expectations and owns a career slash line of .245/.322/.393 with 55 home runs across parts of seven seasons.
