Red Sox 2, Rays 0 - A Dark Day in Tampa Bay Sportsball

Not to be outdone by the disastrous debut of Jameis Winston a few miles away, our Tampa Bay Rays were a disaster of their own, eventually losing in the 13th inning without ever scoring a single run.

The Red Sox and Rays combined for 33(!) strikeouts over 13 fairly uneventful, scoreless innings before Boston finally showed the Will to Win in extras.

It wasn't all negative. Drew Smyly looked fairly terrific out there. Showing plenty of command, Smyly scattered just four hits and two walks over six frames, while striking out eleven. The Red Sox bats were plenty flummoxed, but not near as much as those of the Rays variety were by the opponent's lefty hurler, Rich Hill.
