Rays Triple Play: Pitchers taking baby steps

RHP Chris Archer is slated to start today against the Blue Jays at Charlotte Sports Park, where LHP Xavier Cedeno and RHP Alex Colome are expected to make their first appearances of the spring.

Both are expected to log heavy workloads out of the bullpen when the games start to count, and the Rays are taking a cautious approach with their assignments this spring.

“Colome threw 10 or 11 innings in winter ball and then we felt it was smart for him to stop,’’ manager Kevin Cash said. “Cedeno had a huge workload for us (61 games) last year, so when they came into camp, we kind of factored that in, saying let’s slow them down a little bit.
