Dan Johnson, part I
On Sept. 9, 2008, Dan Johnson was called up from Triple-A Durham and was in the starting lineup that night against the Red Sox in Boston. But because of flight delays and rush-hour traffic, he arrived at Fenway Park too late.
He was used in the ninth inning as a pinch-hitter, and with the Rays down 4-3, he hit a two-strike homer off Jonathan Pabelbon to help propel the Rays to a 5-4 win that increased their lead over the second-place Red Sox to 11⁄2 games. The Rays went on to win the AL East and because of that, played Game 7 of the ALCS against the Red Sox at Tropicana Field.
