Rays Triple Play: Girl starts Cut for the Cure day

Ava starts the day

Ava Raab, 7, began the day Saturday morning by inviting the Rays to have their heads shaved during the fifth annual Cut for a Cure at Charlotte Sports Park.

Ava met with the players in the clubhouse before the workout and told her story. Two years ago, Ava was diagnosed with Wilms’ tumor, the most common form of kidney cancer in children.

“Shaving your heads is easy compared to what kids with cancer are going through,” Ava said.

Many of the Rays players and staff know Ava. She is good friends with former Rays LHP Jake McGee, having met Jake and his wife, Morgan, during past Pediatric Cancer Foundation events.
