Facing difficult roster decisions, the Tampa Bay Rays have decided to deal right-handed pitcher Jose de Leon to the Cincinnati Reds.
The Rays acquired de Leon from the Los Angeles Dodgers in January of 2017 for second baseman Logan Forsythe. At the time, he was one of the top pitching prospects in their system, thanks to a good fastball and a plus changeup.
Injuries (incluing Tommy John Surgery in 2018), lackluster major league performance, and the tremendous depth within the Rays organization have kept de Leon from gaining much traction at the game’s highest level.
