The Rays remained busy Sunday evening. After completing a comeback win over Toronto and acquiring infielder Eric Sogard from the Blue Jays, they traded infielder Christian Arroyo and right-handed pitcher Hunter Wood to Cleveland for minor league outfielder Ruben Cardenas and international bonus money.
The 21-year-old Cardenas was a 16th-round pick from Cal State Fullerton last June, and he’s having success in the Midwest League, where Cleveland’s affiliate ends a series against Bowling Green Monday. He’s batting .284/.343/.475 and is among the league leaders in slugging and OPS.
