ST. PETERSBURG — Candidates for three city council seats on the ballot here Tuesday say the election is not only about baseball, but it could determine the future home of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Two of the three seats are held by opponents to a proposal by Mayor Rick Kriseman and the Rays that would have let the team look for stadium locations outside the city before its lease at Tropicana Field expires in 2027.
That deal failed when the council narrowly voted to reject it. But the balance could shift after Tuesday’s vote, and possibly lead to another shot at a deal.
