DETROIT — RF Steven Souza Jr. (fractured left hand) will continue his minor-league rehab assignment tonight with Class A Charlotte rather than rejoin the Rays in Detroit as he had hoped.
Souza played three games with Durham over the weekend and was 2-for-10 before leaving Monday’s game after being hit by a pitch during his third trip to the plate.
Souza said he hoped the three games would be enough for him to regain his timing at the plate so he could rejoin the Rays this week in Detroit. But Cash said Souza will join Class A Charlotte and play tonight against Palm Beach in the Florida State League playoffs.
