Rays Silverman likes how team looks, so don't expect major changes

ST. PETERSBURG — Rays president of baseball operations Matt Silverman is planning for a busy offseason as he and his staff try to assemble a team that will be competing for a playoff spot in 2016.

The good news is, some of the heavy lifting was accomplished with the moves Silverman made last season after moving to his current position. Also, the Rays have depth at a number of positions, which could come in handy during trade talks.

The normal offseason wish list is not as lengthy as in years past. Nor is it as needy.

The Rays could add a veteran shortstop to replace free agent Asdrubal Cabrera or they could see what Tim Beckham or Nick Franklin can do with the job while they wait for prospect Daniel Robertson to arrive.
