Rays sign reliever Webb to one-year contract

PORT CHARLOTTE — The Rays’ search for a relief pitcher who can induce groundballs ended Thursday when they signed Clearwater native Ryan Webb to a one-year contract.

The Clearwater Central Catholic product will earn $1 million plus incentives for the upcoming season.

“We’re excited to have him,” manager Kevin Cash said. “He’s a guy we did not have last year. We did not have a ground ball pitcher, and it’s going to add to helping our bullpen. There’s plenty of nights were sitting there in the dugout like we could really use a double play ball here right now.
