Rays select lefty Liberatore with first-round pick

ST. PETERSBURG -- With their first pick (16th overall) in the 2018 Draft, Tampa Bay selected Matthew Liberatore, a left-handed pitcher from Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Ariz.

Liberatore has been called the most polished high school pitcher of the Draft.

The Rays also have the 31st, 32nd, 56th and 71st selections. No. 31 is a compensation pick for Alex Cobb, who departed as a free agent, and No. 32 is compensation for unsigned 2017 selection Drew Rasmussen.
