Welcome to baseball’s league championship series. Blue Jays-Royals, Cubs-Mets. It’s a regular Tampa Bay hootenanny, headed by Joe Maddon’s excellent adventure. Anywhere Rays fans look, they’re seeing what could have been — you know, with money.
This reunion show could have been even bigger. If not for the Mets, the NLCS could have been a left-for-greener-pastures showdown: Maddon, who left Tampa Bay to manage the Cubs for more dollars and new challenges, against Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman, who went to Los Angeles for the same.
