ST. PETERSBURG — It took LHP Dana Eveland a little while to warm to the idea of signing a minor league contract with the Rays since his preferred choice of team was a National League squad that trained in Arizona so he could remain close to his wife and children in Southern California. But the decision to accept the Rays’ offer in December proved a wise one since he made the Opening Day roster.
Eveland was added to the team Saturday as the Rays finalized their roster. The Rays chose an extra arm for the bullpen over an extra position player, sending OF Mikie Mahtook to Triple-A Durham.
