ST. PETERSBURG — The Rays are taking a flier on Grady Sizemore, hoping there is enough power left in his bat to give the lineup some pop from the left side, by signing him Monday to a minor-league deal.
Sizemore, who hit .245 with no home runs and six RBIs this season in 104 at-bats with Philadelphia before being released on June 1, will report to Port Charlotte.
“Let him get his feet wet, get some timing back and kind of evaluate,” manager Kevin Cash said. “I think it’s a pretty open situation where he’s going to communicate well with us.
