PORT CHARLOTTE — Rays manager Kevin Cash watched LHP Enny Romero throw his bullpen Tuesday and called it the “highlight of my day.”
Why? Easy.
“Just pumping strikes,” Cash said. “We all know Enny’s stuff is high-octane. Really big fastball, big cutter/slider — whatever you want to call it. It’s all about pounding the strike zone, and he did that. He did that his first bullpen as well, from what I heard.”
Romero, the hard-throwing left-hander, is out of options, meaning he has to earn a spot in the bullpen this season or will find himself pitching for another organization because there is no way he would clear waivers.
