ST. PETERSBURG — Rays LHP Enny Romero retired the first 10 batters he faced this season over three outings. This on the heels of a spring in which he was overpowering in five of his seven appearances.
“He’s gaining confidence by the second out there, and we need him,” manager Kevin Cash said.
The confidence comes from an adjustment in his delivery. Romero keeps his hands about six inches closer to his body at the start. This allows him to stay over the rubber and has improved his command to the point he knows he can throw a strike with all of his pitches — high-90s fastball, cutter and curveball.
