ANAHEIM, Calif. — RHP Erasmo Ramirez faces his old team tonight when the Rays begin the final leg of this road trip with a four-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field.
The Mariners traded Ramirez to the Rays on March 31 for LHP Mike Montgomery, who made his major-league debut Tuesday against the Yankees.
Based on his recent work, the Mariners might be surprised by what they see in Ramirez, who is using the 10-mph separation between his fastball and changeup to his benefit.
Ramirez has won three of his past four starts, including his previous outing when he threw a career-high seven scoreless innings Saturday in Baltimore in a 3-0 victory.
